Have you written a paper on Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies?
Do you have photos from trips or studying abroad in North Africa, the Levant, Turkey, the Gulf, the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, or Central Asia?
Are you interested in sharing your experiences and work with undergraduates and academics around the world?
If so, submit your papers and photographs to Al-Noor for publication in our Fall 2010 issue.
Al-Noor, which means “the Light” in Arabic, Turkish, and Persian (it shares the same root as the Hebrew word), is Boston College’s undergraduate Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Journal. Our aim is to shine a light on the myriad of cultures, histories, and perspectives that comprise the Middle East in a non-partisan and unbiased manner. Previous issues have been distributed across the US and Europe, as well as Afghanistan, Egypt, Morocco, Kuwait, Lebanon, Yemen, Turkey, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Israel, and Palestine.
Articles should be submitted in Microsoft Word format and be between 1,500 and 5,000 words in length.
Possible topics are any subject pertaining to the Middle East and Islam, including history, religion, culture, art, and politics. The article does NOT have to be limited to Islam in the Middle East. Research may also be concerned with the influence of Islam or the Middle East outside of the region; for example, Muslim integration into Western societies.
Papers should also be formatted using Chicago Citation Style with endnotes and a complete bibliography. Pages should also be numbered.
Papers should be submitted via email to alnoorbc@gmail.com before May 25, 2010.
We look forward to reading your submissions!
